This September saw students from the University of Auckland Business School participating in our Annual MCC MikesBikes Competition. The Management Consulting Club (MCC) are one of the largest clubs at the University of Auckland, and they do an excellent job of hosting this event as part of their annual schedule. see 2010 MCC MikesBikes Winners MikesBikes enables students to formulate their own strategy and business plan, implementing these as operational decisions into their online company. Each year (decision period) they analyze their results, as well as those of fellow competitors, growing their business over time. The top three teams with the highest Shareholder Values are awarded the highly coveted prizes. Using MikesBikes-Intro across the Business School helps students to not only develop their knowledge and skills, but also their familiarity with using simulations for when they move onto courses that use our other Business Simulations, MikesBikes-Advanced and Music2go. |

Congratulations to the teams below who placed in the top 3 spots for SHV:
•1st - Sushi $419.41
•2nd - BikeCurious $413.75
•3rd - Meritocratic Society $257.85
The competition was a neck-to-neck race all the way! While the European market was at the top of the Scoreboard for the initial phase, Asia's Sushi eventually found a way to achieve its long term goal at the perfect time, grasping first place. Credit is also due to BikeCurious and Meritocractic Society, both firms giving chase with such determination that it was hard to predict a decisive outcome.
We were also pleased by the performance of the following teams, who we commend for reaching a high SHV:
•Huzzah Bikes!
•Emmanuel
•State by State
•Road Kill Cycles
A big thanks to everyone who competed this year, and to MCC for bridging the gap between classrooms and real world business experience! We wish the very best for you all!

2nd - OGC $86.50 (Ho Shing Lo, Ho Cheong Lo)

The level and quality of competition was high across the board this year. There were many interesting decisions and gambles which paid off. Business by nature is risky, and the winning teams made calculated risks where others chose to play it safe or missed opportunities.
We were also pleased by the performance of the following teams, who we commend for reaching a high SHV:
Many thanks to everyone who competed this year, and good luck with the rest of your studies.
Congratulations again to the top three outstanding teams.
1st Place: iBike: SHV $62.39
Eugene Yip, Ka Ring Wong, Peggy Lui, Richie Wong
2nd Place: Winston says NO: SHV $60.60
Charles Lu, Christopher Lin, Garett Webb, Lip Chao Ng
3rd Place: mini EMPERORS: SHV $58.16
Ian Tay, Kane Kok, Tom Ma, Victor Teh
Well done to all teams, the performance overall was exceptional.
Congratulations to the teams below who placed in the top 3 spots for SHV:
Astro Bikes (Africa) $82.79
The Donkeys (Oceania) $44.11
Up & Go (Africa) $43.05
1. Full credit to Astro Bikes who were able to really dominate with a convincing win, even given they were in a very competitive Industry.
2. The results speak for themselves, the remaining Top 10 positions were a close battle heavily fought right down to the last rollover. You had us here at Smartsims on the edge of our seats :)
3. From the Scoreboard report you can see that though the top Firm did not have the highest Sales, it was their Profit margin that won them the competition (though large Sales definitely helps to achieve that Profit). The top performing Firms did this through being the most efficient with their spending, achieving the most effect from each dollar spent. As a Management Team you are responsible for the company spending and your subsequent results. Your Shareholders demand the largest possible return on their investment, so each year this is your primary responsibility (and as you can see an increasing/continued Profit is one of the main drivers of SHV).
4. There are quite few teams that didn't rank in the Top 10 but performed very well in the latter half of the Simulation, well done! Of particular note are:
On behalf of Smartsims I would like to congratulate all those who competed in this years competition and I wish you well in your future endeavors.
Kind Regards,
